Welcome to Heartland Cottage
We are a farm providing a safe space for the disability community to come and learn about our special animals. We also cater to the general public by appointment only. Our farm is home to various animals such as Valais Blacknose sheep, Scottish highland Cow, Kune Kune Pigs, Silky Chickens and much more. Come and discover the joys of farming with us!
Our Approach
At Heartland Cottage, we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to learn about farming and animals, regardless of their abilities. We provide a safe and inclusive environment where our students can learn at their own pace and in their own way. Our experienced instructors use hands-on teaching methods to make learning fun and engaging.

What is it we do?
At Heartland Cottage we follow the 4 R’s
Rescue
Rehab
Re-Train
Reassess
We generally receive a call from members of the public or organizations in need, how we works...
The animals will be either unwanted, sick, in danger, dangerous, or abandoned.
What happens?
We RESCUE the animal access the animal's condition, and create a treatment and meal plan for the animal on our online database.
we treat the animal and monitor every hour until our team is content the animal has settled and is stable.
Then we REHAB any animals that require rehab, we follow the advice of our local vets and our onsite medical team, to ensure the animal has the best chance of success.
Then the fun part RE-TRAIN, our volunteers and members of our disability community re-train the animals as support animals. We work with them daily and love watching our most vulnerable members of the community succeed in the most incredible process, slowly gentling an animal and teaching them to trust humans, when a human has sometimes been so cruel to them is a magical process.
FINALLY, We REASSESS
Our Team then gets together and works through our support animal criteria, we then check the animal loves the new job they have been given, if for some reason Heartland Cottage isn't the best place for the animal, we will find them the best home possible. we ensure a property inspection has been completed and keep in contact with the rehomed animal to ensure the rehome is successful.
